December 28, 2011 – Tijuana, México
The San Diego Flash took on Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente (the Xolos) U-20 side at Estadio Caliente. It was their second trip across the border in a year. In the previous meeting, the San Diego Flash won against the Xolos by a score of 3 – 1.
In this match, the Xolos were certainly looking for a bit of revenge for losing in the earlier match. This showed as the Xolos scored first in the 14th minute on a Bruno Piceno goal on receipt of a corner kick. The forward kicked from the outside of the box and put the ball in the upper left corner past Flash goal keeper Cristian Valdez.
For the balance of the 1st half, the San Diego Flash kept up the offensive pressure with many chances that could not find the back of the net.
2 minutes into extra time of the 1st half, Sergio Valle Ortiz sent a centering pass to the middle of the opponents box. Ladule LoSarah puts a shot in the back of the net to even the score for the visiting Flash; 1 – 1.
