#10 Larry Emeanua 'Man of the Match' with 2 goals

Sunday was the big rematch to see who would be in control of the Southwest Division. The SD Flash (8 – 3 – 0) and Santa Ana Winds FC (7 – 4 – 0) are the two top teams in the Division. These two clubs squared off against each other for the second time in 3 weeks.

In the previous meeting, the SD Flash was able to dominate the play and came away with a 4 – 0 victory. In Sunday’s match; although the 2 – 0 score was different, the play was about the same.

In the opening half, the SD Flash played aggressively, keeping the ball in the Winds terrirory. At the 7 minute mark, #16 Brennan Tennelle delivered a beautiful cross that found the foot of #10 Larry Emeanua; who calmly chipped the ball into the net for the 1st goal of the game.

Just a couple minutes later, at the 9 minute mark, Emeanua was able to get a breakaway down the side and beat the Winds goalie for a 2 – 0 lead for the Flash. That was the score at the end of the half.

In the begining of the 2nd half, the SD Flash seemed as though they were going to keep up the scoring pressure. Two point black opportunities were missed in the first 10 minutes that would have certainly put the match away. However there seemed to be too much dribbling in front of the net.

These missed opportunities gave the Winds confidence. They began to mount some offesnsive pressure of their own. Time after time, Flash goal keeper, #1 Justin Myers made save after save. One key save came on a set piece from just outside the box. Myers got a hand on the ball and deflected it away to preserve the shut out. Myers has 5 shut outs this season in goal for the Flash.

Warren Barton; Head Coach of the SD Flash said, “The guys played well enough to win today. We missed a number of opportunities that I believe should have been converted. I’ve made it clear to the players that as we move forward, we need to be more focused and put away the chances that we get.”
