Game 10 – Re-cap – SD Flash falls to San Diego Boca FC

#10 Larry Emeanua's Bicycle Kick to tie the score!

In the rematch of the “San Diego Derby”, the entire San Diego Soccer Community got to see a good show!

SD Flash started the game strong, pressing deep into Boca territory several times and carrying much of the flow of the game. However, in the 10th minute San Diego Boca FC forward Cameron Roget took a outlet pass deep in Flash territory, fought off the lone defender, and fired a shot off to the left of goal keeper Justin Myers. Myers dove for the ball but the shot was just out of reach, hitting the back of the net for a 1-0 Boca lead.

The goal seemed to energize the home team and they began to take control of the game. San Diego Boca’s aggressive marking and physical play appeared to throw SD Flash off their normal game. The remainder of the first half was back-and-forth, with Boca dictating much of the flow.

In the second half SD Flash came out strong and attempted to establish their game, but San Diego Boca continued to challenge. Although the visitors were taller, the home team refused to let them use their height advantage, continuing to mark tightly and play aggressively.

In the 60th minute of play San Diego Boca struck again, with Cameron Roget scoring his second goal of the night. After this SD Flash redoubled their efforts, forcing Steve Gonzalez to make several acrobatic saves. Finally, at the 74th minute, Larry Emeanua collected the ball in front of the Boca net and fired a shot to the far side, just out of Gonzalez’s reach, to cut the lead to 2-1. As time clicked down it appeared that the game would end on that score, but SD Flash refused to go quietly.

Because of several injuries and the altercation, five minutes were added on as stoppage time. Three minutes into stoppage time, Larry Emeanua executed an amazing bicycle kick on a rebound from a blocked shot, beating Gonzalez and evening the score at 2-2. SD Flash erupted in celebration, but it was too soon. Seconds later Juan “Kichis” Perez-Bernal took a pass in front of the Flash goal and flicked a desperation shot. The ball bounced off a defender’s face and slipped past goalie Justin Myers for the winning score.
